There are numerous great links on the Internet so we have focused on local Sonoma County resources that may be helpful you. You'll probably be surprised at the great vegan/vegetarian restaurants Sonoma County has. Several of the NGO's (Non Governmental Organizations) also are national or international so they have power and direction not always found in a small local groups. Check them out!
Organizations
EarthSave International gently educates, leading a global movement of people from all walks of life who are taking concrete steps to promote healthy and life-sustaining food choices. EarthSave supplies information, support and practical programs to those who have learned that their food choices impact environmental and human health. There is a local chapter in Marin County with monthly potlucks. Worth the carpool.
Organic Athlete is an amazing organization with a local chapter right here is Sebastopol. Learn why some of the world's best athletes are vegetarian. Connect with athletes of all ages and abilities to create a global community. And check out those body-builders, wow! Bob's passionate voice for the animals and Earth can only be matched by his great guests. Santa Rosa Communty Market Santa Rosa Community Market is a worker-run, vegetarian business. After shopping there for a while you will find yourself bumping into quite a few friends and can always find literature about good things going on in the community. Their mission is to provide natural, healthful, organic, environmentally responsible products at reasonable prices and to be a valuable resource for service and education for a sustainable community. Has take-out Deli and a large selection of herbal medicines and spices. All produce is organic. Menu: Has ready-made sandwiches and salads. We are really lucky have this great resource so please support them!
Brighthaven An Animal Place of Love, Learning and Education. While not vegan, Brighthaven is a local animal sanctuary where amazing things happen. Brighthaven is a non-profit organization dedicated to the well being of senior, disabled, and special animals right in the heart of Sonoma County. During the last 13 years they have rescued a number of special needs animals and through this enlightening experience have seen miraculous results when a balance of natural feeding, holistic care and modern medicine are used in a loving respectful family environment. They do amazing things with animals others would not think possible. A visit or class at Brighthaven is uplifting and inspiring.
Sonoma People for Animal Rights SPAR has been a working in Sonoma County for over two decades. Although their site is currently "under construction" it does give you contact information. Contact them if you would like to receive their online newsletter "Our Reader" a digest of the important issues concerning the animal rights community, plus notices and updates telling you when SPAR is planning events. In Defense of Animals "In Defense of Animals has set the standard for integrity and results in animal advocacy. In a world in which too many look away, IDA has been on the cutting edge of front-line activism to end abuse and exploitation. No organization has done more to uphold the principles of justice for our animal friends." says the author Jeffrey Masson of the wonderful book, When Elephants Weep. And its headquarters are close, right in Mill Valley. Check out their website for lots of great information.
Action for Animals Located in Oakland, Action for Animals appears to have no website at this time (any budding web designers want to volunteer?) but has published an invaluable monthly calendar of events for Bay Area animal rights and environmental activists. Twenty dollars per year ($35 for organizations). Does public speaking in schools. Has a major focus on live animals in food markets and animals in entertainment: rodeos, circuses, zoos, and maritime parks. Friends of Animals goal is to free animals from cruelty and institutionalized exploitation around the world.With loyal support of members and friends from all walks of life thoughout the world, each year they actively meet the needs of more animals on more fronts than any animal advocacy group of its kind.

Govinda's Cafe Next to Santa Rosa Community Market right near the Santa Rosa Junior College. The food is delicious, vegetarian and bountiful. Pure Gourmet Vegetarian International and Indian. Lunch and Dinner Buffet. Salad Bar.
Slice of Life Sebastopol. Fully Vegetarian International. Mostly Vegan. American, Italian and Mexican. Vegan and Macrobiotic options. Menu: Has over sixty dishes on the menu. Soups, salads, sandwiches, veggie burgers, fat-free fries (air-baked), hot dogs, main dishes, smoothies, vegan muffin and good tasting vegan desserts. Daily specials are usually vegan. Vegan breakfasts served all day. Has organic wheat-crust pizzas that can be made with a choice of real or tofu cheese (or no cheese at all). Pizza can be ordered by the slice. Non-alcoholic beer and wine. They have organic pastas that don't contain eggs or oil. Family run, friendly placed. Good service. Casual. Reasonably priced. Displays local artist's work. Full service, catering, take-out.
East West Restaurant One in both Santa Rosa and Sebastopol. Natural International Foods. Macrobiotic and Vegan options. Not pure vegetarian. Menu: Has International and Middle Eastern foods, hummus, sandwices, falafel, burrito, stir-fry and pastas. Fresh juices, smoothies, non-dairy shakes and desserts. Full service, take-out.
East West Bakery and Cafe Cafe and Bakery in Sebastopol. Mainly vegetarian. Homemade non-dairy ice cream. Menu: Has a wide selection of vegetarian dishes. Soups, salads, sandwiches and hot dishes. Tofu can be subsitute for meat in many of the diets.
Fresh Choice One in Santa Rosa and Rohnert Park. American. Not pure vegetarian. Menu: Has a large choice of salads. Has a vegetarian and vegan soups and pastas. A set price includes a bread and dessert.
